Lanise Hughes
Fabled Motown Drumming great Lanise Hughes’ incomparable resume features, without exaggeration, some of the biggest, baddest names in music history. Yes... Lanise was the drummer for the one and only Rick James, which included world tours, major television performances, and recording on many Gold and Platinum certified albums, including the triple platinum classic "Street Songs." Throw in other credits like The Temptations, Teena Marie, and Bobby Brown, and it’s easy to see why we lunged at the opportunity to have Lanise join the Hiptrix roster.
Musically inspired as a drummer at the age of 5 by his father, Buffalo native Hughes has performed on shows such as Leno, Saturday Night Live (as well as the SNL 25th Anniversary special), Arsenio Hall, Solid Gold, Soul Train, The Grammy Awards, The American Music Awards, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve Show, and many more. On top of that, Hughes has also been featured in many publications, including Modern Drummer, Playboy, and Billboard Magazine. Lanise can currently be seen with The Stone City Band on the Legends World Tour, as well as in the recent documentary "I’m Rick James", alongside George Clinton, Dave Chappelle, Eddie Griffin, Charlie Murphy, and many others, in tribute to the late King of Funk.
